A Little Bit Uncertain – Kelly O’Reilly

ARC Read | Small-Town Romance, Banter & a Side of Chaos

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5 if we’re getting technical)

Spice: 🌶️ (slow-burn, but the tension is chef’s kiss)

Mood: Cozy, witty, slightly swoony

Listen… sometimes you pick up a book expecting a cute little romance and instead you get a slow-burn banter-fest with actual laugh-out-loud moments and a main character who could single-handedly fund your tablescaping addiction.

In A Little Bit Uncertain, we meet Donovan Wright — big city transplant, emotionally-guarded, suit-wearing, lowkey lonely — and Audra King, a nurse who’s basically sunshine in human form (with just the right amount of sarcasm). Their meet-cute? Oh, just your casual “open fracture at a four-way stop” situation. Nothing says “romantic tension” like bones poking through the skin, right?

After that intense first encounter, it’s the smaller moments that pull you in — a flower shop run-in that turns into “tablescape” banter, late-night drinks at The Yard, and chef’s kiss small-town meddling from their mutual connections.

💜 Why I Ate This Up

  1. The Banter: These two verbally flirt like it’s an Olympic sport. Donovan may have been hiding in his office for the past year, but when he decides to show up? Lord help us all.
  2. Small-Town Shenanigans: Everyone knows everyone… and everyone knows about Harold (a.k.a. “two-pump chump”). IYKYK. This subplot alone had me howling.
  3. Dual POV: Getting Donovan’s inner thoughts was EVERYTHING. Watching him try to figure out why Audra’s laugh makes him act like a normal, sociable human being? Adorable.
  4. Side Characters: Maeve, Bennett, and the crew? I would read their group chat transcripts like it’s my religion.

Trigger Warnings

  1. On-page accident & injury detail (open fracture)
  2. Mention of parental loss
  3. Alcohol use/bar scenes
  4. Sexual references & explicit nicknames for bad lovers (again… Harold)

Final Thoughts

If you like your romance with:

  1. Small-town charm
  2. Flirty banter that makes you giggle into your coffee
  3. A MMC who looks at the FMC like she hung the moon
  4. And friend group chaos that deserves its own spin-off

…then A Little Bit Uncertain will make you very certain you need more Kelly O’Reilly in your life.
